Verse #148 of 220
Good morning, dear friends, as the first hints of light filter through the early morning sky on October 22, 2026. It feels like a fresh start, a quiet invitation to begin again with hope in our hearts. Today we turn to verse 148 in our series, drawn from 1 Chronicles 28:20: "...be firm and steadfast... do not fear or be discouraged." These words, spoken long ago by a father to his son, still speak directly to the quiet worries we carry into each new day.
David was preparing Solomon for an enormous responsibility, the building of the temple. He did not promise an easy path free of obstacles. Instead, he offered the steady assurance that God would be present every step of the way. That same promise reaches us now, in our own seasons of building lives, careers, and relationships amid uncertainty.
Many of us wake to thoughts of work pressures or shifting job markets that can leave us wondering if we are enough. Others face health news that arrives without warning, or the steady rhythm of caring for family members while trying to hold everything together. The news cycle brings its own weight, reminding us of divisions and changes happening across the world. It is natural to feel the tug of discouragement when the ground seems to move beneath our feet.
Yet the verse gently redirects our gaze. Being firm and steadfast does not mean pretending fears do not exist. It means choosing, again and again, to place one foot in front of the other while trusting that we are not walking alone. God’s presence offers the strength to keep showing up for the meetings, the school runs, the quiet prayers, and the ordinary tasks that make up our days.
This morning, perhaps you are sipping coffee before the house stirs or driving in the pre-dawn quiet. Let these words settle like a warm hand on your shoulder. You do not have to muster courage from within yourself alone. The same God who walked with Solomon walks with you, providing what you need for whatever today holds.
May you move through these hours with a steadier heart, noticing small mercies and extending kindness wherever you can. Together we can live out this call to courage, one hopeful step at a time.
