Verse #165 of 220

Beloved brethren, as the shadows lengthen in this sacred evening hour, let us meditate together upon the prophet's words: be glad and rejoice forever in what I am creating. Isaiah spoke these promises to a people exiled and weary, foretelling the new heavens and new earth where ancient sorrows vanish like morning dew. In the historical moment of Israel's return from Babylon, the Lord unveiled not mere restoration but a fresh act of divine making, echoing the first creation yet surpassing it in glory. The Early Church Fathers beheld in this verse the very mystery of our redemption. St. Augustine, in his reflections on the City of God, teaches that we rejoice eternally because God continues creating within us the new man, conformed to Christ. What He creates is not fleeting but everlasting joy, for the old order of sin and death passes away. Origen likewise contemplates how the prophet's vision prefigures the spiritual renewal granted through baptism and the sacraments, wherein the soul is refashioned in incorruption. Drawing deeply from the patristic catena, we hear St. Jerome remind us that the rejoicing is perpetual precisely because creation itself is renewed by the Word made flesh. No longer do we labor under the curse, but we share in the Sabbath rest of the Lamb. St. Cyprian echoes this when he writes of the Church as the firstfruits of that new creation, a people called to anticipate heavenly gladness even amid earthly trials. Thus the verse invites us to lift our eyes beyond present afflictions toward the eternal banquet prepared from the foundation of the world. In the quiet of this evening, my children, let these words settle in your hearts. Rejoice not in what is passing, but in what God is even now bringing forth: a cosmos transfigured, hearts made pure, and an endless song of praise. For He who creates all things new will wipe away every tear, and our joy shall have no end. #FearNot220 #FearNotUNPLUGGED #165of220 #Catholic
